Yesterday I went and played Wigwam in the afternoon when the course would be empty. As expected, it was. I only time I ran into a group ahead of me was my approach shot on 18.
I wanted to use the time to apply the techniques Ronnie gave me. I still am a little too wristy which leads to my hook, but I’ve gotten it more under control. I hit a lot of good shots, even with clubs that used to give me nightmares. The first hole is a par 5, so I hit my drive along the right side, and had about 210 left to the green. That’s a little bit short for my 5 wood, and I haven’t hit a 3-iron in forever since I always screw it up. But I decided on giving the 3 iron a shot, and it was a good decision. I hit a nice shot with just a fraction of a draw, and it landed in front of the green and rolled off the back. I’ve been using some crappy Top-Flite balls lately while I work out my swing – I don’t want to lose any nice balls. They do a lot farther and don’t hold worth a damn on the greens. So maybe if I was playing my normal ball, the shot would have held. I hit several long irons and had good results with them. Maybe I don’t need to buy that hybrid after all.
In the end, I finished with a 7-over 77, 38-39.
